BA Sports Media
About this course
Sports media has grown into one of the most dynamic and commercially significant segments of the broader media industry. Live sport is among the most watched content on television and streaming platforms, and digital sports media, including club channels, podcasting, social media coverage, and sports journalism online, has created an enormous range of new professional roles. Sports media as a degree takes this world seriously as a professional environment, developing the skills and knowledge you need to work effectively within it. At Chichester you will develop a broad range of specialist skills across the different areas of sports media practice. The programme covers sports journalism and writing, broadcasting and presenting, digital and social media production, sports photography, video production, and the business and marketing dimensions of sports media organisations. You will engage with the full spectrum of the industry, from print and broadcast journalism to the digital content creation that now drives much of the engagement between sports organisations and their audiences. The three-year full-time programme develops both your practical production skills and your critical understanding of how sports media works as an industry and a cultural force. Graduates go on to careers as sports journalists, content producers, broadcast journalists and presenters, social media managers for sports organisations, video producers, sports photographers, and digital media professionals. The sports industry's appetite for high-quality content across multiple platforms continues to grow, and graduates with both journalistic skills and specialist sports knowledge are consistently sought after. Many graduates also work in communications and media management roles within sports organisations, from professional clubs to governing bodies and event organisers.
