BSc Events Management
About this course
Events Management is a discipline concerned with the planning, delivery, and evaluation of experiences that bring people together, whether for entertainment, business, culture, or sport. It draws on principles from project management, marketing, logistics, and human behaviour, and demands both creative thinking and meticulous attention to operational detail. The events industry spans an enormous range of contexts, from international music festivals and sporting championships to corporate conferences, brand activations, and private celebrations. At Sheffield Hallam University, this full-time programme runs over three years and includes both a foundation year and a placement year, as well as additional work placement opportunities. You will study event design, technology, marketing, operations, and safety, gaining a broad grounding in what it takes to create experiences that achieve their aims and run without incident. The curriculum covers everything from the creative conceptualisation of a festival or fashion show to the contractual, logistical, and safety frameworks that govern large-scale public gatherings. You will also explore business management principles, learning to balance budgets, manage suppliers, and lead teams under pressure. Collaboration with events professionals is embedded in the course, giving you exposure to how the industry actually operates and helping you build contacts before you graduate. The placement year allows you to take on a substantive role within a real organisation, applying your knowledge in a professional setting and developing the practical confidence that academic study alone cannot fully provide. Graduates of Events Management work across a wide spectrum of roles, including event coordinator, project manager, venue manager, sponsorship executive, and festival producer. Many find careers in sports, arts, hospitality, and corporate sectors, while others work with charities, public bodies, or as independent consultants. Further study in business, marketing, or specialist event management postgraduate programmes is also a common pathway.
