BA Business Management and Music Production (With Foundation Year)
About this course
Business management and music production is an unusual but increasingly relevant combination that brings together the strategic and operational knowledge of business with the creative, technical, and theoretical understanding of music production. The music industry is both a creative and a commercial enterprise, and the professionals who succeed within it increasingly need to understand both dimensions: how music is made and how it is turned into a viable commercial proposition, from recording and distribution to rights management and live promotion. At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year full-time programme allows you to develop both sets of skills in a city with a singular musical heritage and a vibrant contemporary music scene. The music production strand takes you into the creative, technical, and theoretical sides of a rapidly evolving field, with access to studios and connections to Liverpool's music industry. The business management strand develops the strategic, financial, and organisational capabilities needed to navigate professional creative environments. The degree includes a foundation year, a sandwich year, a year abroad, and a work placement, meaning that by graduation you will have substantial applied experience in both disciplines alongside your academic training. You will develop skills in music production, recording, sound design, and music theory alongside business strategy, marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship, building the dual expertise that roles at the interface of creativity and commerce require. Graduates go on to work in music production, artist management, record labels, music publishing, live music, streaming and digital distribution, music marketing, and a growing range of roles in the creative economy where business and music knowledge intersect. Many develop their own creative or business ventures. Postgraduate study in music business, music production, or management is an option for those wishing to specialise further.
