BSc Sport & Exercise Science
About this course
Sport and exercise science applies the methods and knowledge of biology, physiology, psychology, and biomechanics to the systematic study of physical performance and the effects of exercise on human health. It is a discipline that sits at the intersection of science and sport, asking how and why the human body responds to training, what psychological factors determine athletic performance, how movement can be analysed and improved, and how physical activity contributes to the health and well-being of populations. Graduates are equipped to work in sport performance, health promotion, and the growing field of exercise-based interventions. This three-year, full-time programme at Liverpool Hope builds essential foundational knowledge in the first year before offering increasing specialisation in years two and three, allowing you to tailor your studies toward areas of personal and professional interest, whether in elite performance, health and rehabilitation, coaching, or sport psychology. The programme includes a placement year and a year abroad, providing opportunities to gain practical experience in sport science settings and to engage with sport and exercise from an international perspective. The combination of strong scientific foundations and the flexibility to pursue specialist interests makes the degree well suited to a range of career directions. Graduates move into a wide range of careers in sport, health, and fitness. Performance analysis, strength and conditioning, sport psychology support, exercise physiology, health promotion, and community sport development are among the most common destinations. Many graduates also enter coaching and sports administration, or work in the health and fitness industry. Some continue to postgraduate study in sport science, physiotherapy, sport psychology, or physical education, pursuing specialist qualifications for advanced professional roles. The combination of scientific rigour, practical skills, and the international and placement experience the programme provides makes graduates well prepared for careers in an increasingly evidence-driven sector.
