BA Spanish and International Business
About this course
Spanish and international business is a combination that directly addresses the reality of a globalised economy in which language and cultural competence are as valuable as technical business skills. Spanish is one of the world's most widely spoken languages, the primary language of around twenty countries across Latin America and the official language of Spain, and its significance in international trade, diplomacy and culture is immense. International business brings the frameworks of strategy, marketing, finance and management to bear on this global context, giving you the analytical tools to understand how businesses operate across borders. At the University of Westminster, this three-year programme develops the skills and knowledge you need to succeed in the internationalised business world. You will build your Spanish language proficiency to a high level alongside a thorough grounding in international business strategy, marketing, cross-cultural management and the commercial environments of Spanish-speaking markets. A sandwich placement year provides substantial professional experience, and a year abroad gives you extended time in a Spanish-speaking country, developing both your linguistic fluency and your understanding of the business and cultural contexts you have been studying. Work placement opportunities are integrated throughout the programme. Graduates in Spanish and international business are well positioned for careers in international trade and export management, marketing and communications in Spanish-speaking markets, financial services with an international focus, international law, tourism and hospitality, public sector international roles and non-governmental organisations working across Latin America or Spain. The combination of genuine language competence and business understanding is a distinctive credential valued by a wide range of multinational and internationally active employers. Postgraduate study in international business, management or Spanish studies is a natural progression for those seeking deeper expertise.
