BA International Business
About this course
International business examines how companies and organisations operate across national borders, and what it takes to succeed in markets shaped by different cultures, legal systems, economic conditions and political environments. It combines core business disciplines with a genuinely global perspective, addressing questions of strategy, trade, finance, marketing and management in contexts that require cultural intelligence as well as commercial acumen. The field is increasingly important as supply chains, talent pools and customer bases become more internationally distributed. At Leeds Beckett University, this three-year full-time degree is structured to develop your understanding of international business theory and practice. You will explore the major frameworks for analysing global markets, study how multinational organisations are structured and managed, and examine the regulatory, financial and cultural environments that shape international trade. A sandwich year placement gives you the opportunity to gain significant professional experience, and a year abroad allows you to develop the cross-cultural fluency and international perspective that are central to working in a global business environment. Work placement experience further reinforces the connection between your academic study and real professional contexts. Critical thinking, communication and problem-solving are emphasised throughout. You will work with case studies drawn from different industries and geographies, develop your ability to analyse business situations from multiple perspectives, and build the confidence to operate in unfamiliar cultural and professional settings. Language skills and intercultural competence are typically developed alongside business knowledge. Graduates from international business programmes enter roles in multinational corporations, consultancy, international trade and export, finance, marketing, logistics, and public sector organisations with international remits. The combination of business knowledge, international experience and intercultural skills that this degree provides is valued across a wide range of industries and geographies, and postgraduate study in international business, management or a related field is a common pathway for those who want to develop further expertise.
