BA Public Relations
About this course
Public relations is the discipline of managing how organisations communicate with and are perceived by their various audiences, from customers, journalists and investors to employees, policymakers and communities. It sits at the intersection of strategy and storytelling, requiring practitioners to understand both what organisations need to communicate and how to do so persuasively and credibly across a range of platforms and contexts. Contemporary public relations practice spans press and media relations, crisis communications, digital and social media strategy, internal communications, public affairs and reputation management. At the University of the Arts London you will study public relations over three years of full-time study, developing as a creative communicator with the strategic, analytical and practical skills that effective PR practice demands. UAL's creative environment gives the programme a distinctive character, connecting public relations to the broader landscape of creative communication, branding and cultural production. A sandwich year and integrated work placement provide substantial professional experience, connecting your academic learning to the realities of industry practice and building the professional network that PR careers depend on. The typical tariff of 136 reflects a programme that values creative aptitude, communication skills and a genuine understanding of media and audience alongside academic ability. Graduates work in public relations agencies, in-house communications teams, public sector communications, journalism, marketing, digital media and brand management. PR is a profession where graduates move quickly into roles of real responsibility if they develop the right combination of writing, strategic thinking and interpersonal skills. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in communications, marketing, journalism or digital media, and the UAL environment provides particularly strong networks in the creative, cultural and fashion industries where its graduates are especially well represented.
