BA Politics, International Studies and French
About this course
Politics, international studies, and French is a combination that brings together the analytical study of political systems and global affairs with deep engagement in one of the world's most important languages and the cultures it carries. Politics and international studies develops your ability to analyse how power is organised and exercised within states and across the international system, examining political institutions, theories, security, global governance, and the dynamics of conflict and cooperation. French adds both practical language competence and cultural depth, opening access to a major European tradition and the broader Francophone world. The University of Warwick's four-year full-time programme has a typical entry tariff of 168 points and includes a sandwich year with work placement opportunities. As the course describes, you will learn about politics at a national and international level, examine political issues through a culturally sensitive lens, develop and deepen your French language skills, and understand cultures and societies where French is spoken. The combination develops skills in theoretical analysis, qualitative and quantitative research, and written and verbal communication across different linguistic and cultural registers. Warwick's Politics and International Studies department is one of the leading departments in the country, and the integration of serious language study with political analysis gives the degree a distinctive character. Graduates work in government and the civil service, diplomacy and foreign affairs, international organisations, journalism, non-governmental organisations, think tanks, the European Union and related bodies, and the private sector. French language competence opens particular doors in international business, Francophone Africa, and European institutions. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in international relations, French studies, European politics, or law. The combination of analytical and linguistic skills the degree develops is valued in any context where engagement across national and cultural boundaries matters.
