BSc Paramedic Science
About this course
Paramedic science prepares you to provide emergency and urgent care to people at some of the most critical moments of their lives. Paramedics are highly skilled autonomous healthcare professionals who assess, diagnose, and treat patients across a wide range of conditions, from trauma and cardiac emergencies to mental health crises and long-term conditions, often in unpredictable and demanding environments. At the University of Bradford, this four-year, full-time degree takes a practice-rich approach that has been consistently recognised by employers, with Bradford students praised for the depth of their clinical skills and communication. You will study the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology that underpin emergency care, alongside clinical pharmacology, patient assessment, and the ethical and professional dimensions of paramedic practice. Bradford's programme is built around a high volume of clinical placements in ambulance services and other healthcare settings, giving you more practical experience than many comparable programmes. This immersion in real clinical environments is central to the degree's philosophy, ensuring that by the time you graduate you are a confident and capable practitioner rather than someone learning on the job. The four-year structure of the Bradford programme allows the integration of additional study and professional development alongside the clinical pathway, providing a particularly thorough preparation for a demanding profession. On graduation you will be eligible to apply for registration as a paramedic with the Health and Care Professions Council, the professional regulator for the UK profession. Career paths include roles in ambulance services across the NHS, critical care transport, air ambulance, the armed forces, and emergency medicine. Many paramedics also go on to further study in advanced practice, prescribing, or specialist clinical areas.
