LLB Law (With Foundation Year)
About this course
Law is the study of the rules, principles, and institutions that govern the behaviour of individuals, organisations, and states in society. It is a discipline that trains you in precision, careful reasoning, and the construction of coherent argument, while also engaging you with fundamental questions about justice, rights, authority, and the relationship between law and social change. A law degree provides the intellectual foundation for the legal profession and develops skills that are widely valued across an enormous range of careers. At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year, full-time programme includes a foundation year, a sandwich year, and a year abroad, as well as work placement opportunities. The foundation year is designed for students who have the ability and enthusiasm to study law at degree level but need to build the academic foundation that the main programme requires. It focuses on core skills including academic writing, independent learning, critical thinking, and time management, all of which underpin success at university and in professional life. The main degree covers the full range of substantive law subjects required of an LLB in England and Wales, from public law and the law of obligations through to criminal law, property law, and equity. The year abroad and sandwich year add international and professional dimensions that strengthen your employability. Graduates of Law are well placed for careers in legal practice, through qualification routes to solicitor or barrister status, as well as in the civil service, business, finance, journalism, international organisations, and the voluntary sector. The intellectual skills that law develops, including close reading, logical argument, and the ability to work within complex rule systems, are transferable across any professional context that rewards rigorous thinking. Many graduates continue to postgraduate study in law or related fields, building specialist expertise for research or senior practice.
