LLB Law with Business
About this course
Law with business is a degree that prepares you for the realities of legal and commercial life in which law and business are inseparably intertwined. It combines a qualifying law curriculum that covers the foundations of English law with business-focused study that develops commercial understanding. Lawyers practising in commercial contexts need to understand the financial, strategic, and operational dimensions of the transactions and disputes they work on, not just the legal frameworks that govern them. At Essex, this LLB provides a qualifying law degree that opens the route to professional legal training, alongside business modules that develop your understanding of commercial organisations, markets, and management. You will study the core legal subjects required for a qualifying law degree, including contract, tort, criminal law, constitutional and administrative law, equity, trusts, and land law, alongside business-focused study that contextualises commercial law practice in the real world of commerce. The degree runs over three years full-time, with a typical entry tariff of 120 points. Graduates of law with business programmes are well placed for professional legal training as solicitors or barristers, with particular strength in commercial practice areas. The business component gives you a commercial awareness that is consistently identified by law firms as one of the most important qualities they seek in trainee solicitors. Many graduates also move into careers in compliance, regulation, commercial management, and policy, where the combination of legal knowledge and business understanding is directly applicable.
