The Senior Status LLB is designed specifically for graduates who already hold a degree in any subject and wish to retrain in law, compressing the standard three-year programme into two years of intensive full-time study. At the University of Essex, this two-year full-time Senior Status Law degree gives you a thorough grounding in the core areas of English law, including contract, tort, public law, criminal law, property, equity, and European Union law. You will develop the skills of legal analysis, statutory interpretation, and case law reasoning that are essential across all branches of the legal profession. The accelerated nature of the programme means the pace is demanding, but the advantage is a shorter time to qualification and the ability to bring prior academic experience, critical thinking, and subject knowledge from your first degree to enrich your legal studies. Graduates of the Senior Status LLB are eligible to proceed to the professional qualifications required to practise as a solicitor or barrister, just as graduates of the full three-year programme are.
