LLB Law (Senior Status)
About this course
Law Senior Status programmes are designed for graduates who already hold a degree in another subject and wish to convert to law, completing a qualifying law degree in two years rather than three. The accelerated structure demands intellectual intensity and commitment, but it also offers an efficient route into the legal profession and into the many careers for which a law degree is a valued foundation. Bringing the analytical skills and subject knowledge of a prior degree into legal study can be a genuine advantage, and many Senior Status graduates find that their earlier academic background enriches their engagement with legal reasoning and substantive law. At Leeds Beckett you will cover the foundations of English law across two intensive full-time years, developing the doctrinal knowledge and practical skills required for a qualifying law degree. You will engage with contract, tort, criminal, constitutional, and land law alongside the reasoning, research, and communication skills that underpin legal practice and any career in which legal knowledge is valued. The programme also includes a year abroad, which offers an unusual opportunity within an accelerated degree to experience a different legal system and jurisdiction, broadening your comparative understanding of law and its relationship to different societies and cultures. The Senior Status route is particularly valued by those who have already decided to enter the legal profession and who wish to do so with both a substantive first degree and a qualifying law degree. Graduates typically move into the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course as the next step towards qualification as a solicitor or barrister. Others use the law degree to enhance careers in business, the civil service, compliance, human resources, or any other field where legal knowledge is an asset. The combination of an earlier degree's expertise with legal training can be a distinctive advantage in specialised legal fields such as intellectual property, healthcare law, or financial regulation.
