BA Human Resource Management and Psychology
About this course
Human resource management and psychology is a combination whose logic is straightforward: managing people well requires understanding people, and psychology is the science of human behaviour, thought, emotion, and motivation. HRM provides the organisational and professional frameworks through which that understanding is applied in workplaces, while psychology provides the deeper scientific foundation that makes those frameworks genuinely effective rather than merely procedural. At Stirling you will study HRM alongside accredited psychology, developing specialist knowledge in people management, resourcing and talent, learning and development, employment relations, reward, and organisational behaviour, all informed by psychological research on motivation, personality, leadership, group dynamics, and wellbeing at work. The four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you the opportunity to study psychology and management in a different national context and to develop the international perspective that is increasingly valued in HRM as organisations become more global. The psychology component may satisfy the requirements for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership of the British Psychological Society, depending on the options you choose and the grade you achieve. Graduates are well placed for careers in human resources, people management, occupational psychology, learning and development, talent acquisition, and organisational development. The dual qualification in HRM and psychology is distinctive and valued by employers who want HR professionals with both practical management skills and genuine psychological understanding. Many graduates go on to careers in occupational or organisational psychology, sometimes pursuing further professional training, while others move into senior HRM roles or management consultancy. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development qualifications are a common professional goal alongside the degree.
