BSc Geography and Sport & Physical Education (With Foundation Year)
About this course
Geography and sport and physical education is a combination that brings together two fields concerned, in different ways, with the physical world and the human beings who inhabit it. Geography examines how the physical environment works, how people interact with each other and with landscapes, how environments evolve, and how the distribution of resources, people, and power shapes the world we live in. Sport and physical education addresses the physical, psychological, and social dimensions of sport, exercise, and movement, and the professional practice of teaching and developing them. At Liverpool Hope University, this four-year programme, which includes a foundation year, allows you to explore both physical and human geography alongside the science and pedagogy of sport and physical education. You will develop a dynamic and integrated understanding of geography, covering environmental, human, and conservation dimensions, while also gaining knowledge in sport science, coaching, and the principles of physical education. The programme includes a sandwich placement year and a year abroad, alongside embedded work placement opportunities, giving you direct professional experience in geographical, educational, and sport contexts. Graduates from this combination are well placed for careers in physical education teaching (typically requiring a PGCE), outdoor and environmental education, sports coaching, leisure and recreation management, sport development, and roles in local authority sport and geography-related services. The geographical understanding you develop alongside your sport and education expertise is particularly valuable in outdoor learning, environmental education, and roles that combine sport with community and environmental contexts. Many graduates pursue postgraduate study in education, geography, sport science, or sport development.
