Fine Art is the practice of making work that engages seriously with ideas, materials, and the world. It is a discipline rooted in visual and conceptual thinking, asking you to develop your own artistic voice while situating your practice within the broader history and theory of contemporary art. Unlike more applied creative subjects, Fine Art is concerned with the open-ended investigation of what images, objects, and experiences can mean and do, and it demands both intellectual rigour and a willingness to experiment and take risks. At the University of Edinburgh, one of the UK's leading research institutions, you will study Fine Art over four years in full-time mode. Edinburgh's position in Scotland means you will engage with a distinctive cultural context while also connecting to an international art scene. You will work across a range of media and approaches, developing your technical skills alongside a critical and theoretical understanding of art history and contemporary practice.
