BA Film & Media and Marketing
About this course
Film and media studies combined with marketing brings together a sophisticated understanding of visual culture and communication with the commercial intelligence needed to reach and engage audiences. Film and media examines how moving images and media content are produced, distributed, and consumed, and what effects they have on individuals and societies. Marketing studies how products, services, and ideas are presented to audiences and how organisations build relationships with the people they are trying to reach. In an era when digital platforms have fundamentally changed both media and marketing, the two disciplines have never been more interconnected. At the University of Stirling, this four-year full-time programme develops both areas in genuine depth. You will engage critically with film and media theory and history, analysing how media texts construct meaning and how industries are organised and changing under digital pressure. The marketing strand develops your understanding of consumer behaviour, brand strategy, digital marketing, market research, and the management of communications across multiple channels. Together they give you the analytical tools to understand media as culture and the commercial skills to operate within media and communications industries. The programme includes a year abroad, which broadens your international perspective on both media cultures and marketing practices. The typical entry tariff is 184 UCAS points. Graduates go on to careers in digital marketing, advertising, media production, brand management, communications, public relations, film distribution, content strategy, and the creative industries. The combination of critical media knowledge and commercial marketing competence is particularly valued in organisations that create and distribute content. Further study options include postgraduate degrees in marketing, media studies, film, and digital communications.
