About this course

Film and television are the dominant storytelling media of the modern world, shaping how billions of people understand their own experience and the experience of others. They are also complex industries that require not just creative vision but technical expertise, collaborative skill, and an understanding of how content is produced, distributed, and consumed. Studying film and television at degree level gives you access to all of these dimensions: the history and theory of the forms, the practice of making them, and the industry context in which they exist. At the University of the Arts London this three-year, full-time programme is based at London College of Communication, one of the world's leading arts universities. You will develop skills in production, direction, cinematography, editing, sound, and other areas of filmmaking practice alongside critical and theoretical understanding of film and television as cultural forms. LCC is moving into a cutting-edge new building at its Elephant and Castle campus, providing state-of-the-art facilities for this work. A sandwich placement year is built into the programme, and work placement opportunities are incorporated throughout, giving you professional experience in the film and television industry before you graduate. Graduates of film and television programmes go on to careers across the creative and media industries. Many move into production companies, broadcasters, digital platforms, post-production houses, and advertising agencies, working in roles including director, producer, camera operator, editor, sound designer, and production manager. Others move into documentary, journalism, arts programming, or the production of commercial and corporate content. UAL's alumni network and London's position as a global media hub provide significant professional connections for graduates entering the industry. Further study at Masters level in film, television production, or screen studies is available for those who want to develop a specialist direction or move into research and education.
