BA Film and TV Production
About this course
Film and TV production is the practical discipline of making the moving image content that defines contemporary culture, from feature films and scripted television drama to documentary, branded content and digital formats. Behind every production, however large or small, is a complex creative and organisational process involving writers, directors, producers, cinematographers, editors, sound designers, and a host of other specialists working in collaboration to bring a project from concept to screen. Understanding and contributing to that process is what this degree is designed to teach. At the University of Gloucestershire, this three-year full-time programme develops both the technical skills and the creative judgment needed to work in the industry. You will develop competence across the production pipeline, from script development and pre-production planning through camera operation, lighting, and sound recording to post-production and the final output. You will also engage with the critical and contextual dimensions of film and television study, developing an understanding of the industry, its history, and its relationship to culture and society. The programme actively encourages students to seek industry work placement opportunities, with connections to organisations including major production companies, broadcasters, and post-production facilities. Graduates move into roles across the film and television industry, including production, directing, editing, cinematography, sound design, producing, and production management. Many work in production companies, broadcasters, post-production houses, and advertising agencies, while others develop careers in digital content, documentary film-making, or the growing sector of streaming and online content production. The combination of practical skills and industry connections the programme develops is a strong preparation for a career in this competitive but dynamic field.
