BA Fashion Photography
About this course
Fashion Photography sits at the intersection of two demanding creative disciplines: the technical and artistic practice of photography and the visual culture of the fashion industry. It is a field that requires not only the ability to produce technically excellent photographs but also a deep understanding of fashion as a cultural and commercial phenomenon, including styling, brand identity, campaign development, and the communication strategies through which fashion reaches its audiences. Fashion photographers must be agile practitioners capable of working across editorial, advertising, e-commerce, and digital content contexts. At the University of Westminster, this three-year, full-time degree draws on Westminster's long-established strengths in both photography and fashion to develop rigorous photographic training alongside expertise in styling, fashion communication, digital marketing, branding, and campaign development. The programme aims to produce confident, critically informed visual practitioners equipped to succeed in fashion photography and across the wider creative industries. The degree includes a sandwich year, work placements, and the option of a year abroad, giving you substantial professional and international experience that is essential preparation for a field in which a strong portfolio and industry connections are what employers and commissioning editors look for. Graduates work across the full range of fashion photography and visual communication contexts: editorial photography for magazines and online publications, advertising campaigns, look books, e-commerce imagery, creative direction, art direction, and styling are all natural directions. The combination of photographic craft and fashion industry understanding also prepares graduates for roles in visual content creation, social media management, and brand communications. Postgraduate study in photography, fashion communication, or visual culture is available for those who wish to develop specialist expertise.
