BA Fashion Management and Communication
About this course
Fashion is a global industry that runs on a complex interplay of creativity, commerce, and communication. Behind every garment that reaches a consumer lies a network of decisions about brand positioning, trend interpretation, supply chain management, marketing strategy, and media presence. Fashion Management and Communication sits at that intersection, preparing you to understand the business logic of fashion while developing the communication skills that shape how brands speak to their audiences. At Sheffield Hallam, this three-year programme covers the full range of disciplines that underpin professional fashion careers, from styling and trend forecasting to marketing, public relations, brand communications, and content creation. You will develop both practical and strategic skills, learning to analyse markets, develop campaign concepts, and manage brand identity across multiple channels. A foundation year is available for students who need additional preparation before entering the main programme, and both a sandwich year in industry and a placement year are built into the course, giving you extended professional experience before you graduate. These work-based elements are genuinely formative: they allow you to apply classroom learning in real settings, build your professional network, and develop the kind of portfolio that employers respond to. Graduates go on to work across the fashion and creative industries in roles that include brand management, fashion marketing, trend analysis, PR, social media management, editorial styling, and communications consultancy. The business and communication skills you develop are also transferable to adjacent sectors such as retail, luxury goods, creative agencies, and media. Further study at postgraduate level, in areas such as fashion marketing or creative direction, is an option for those who want to specialise further or move into research and teaching.
