BA Digital Media, Public Relations and Advertising
About this course
Digital media, public relations and advertising is a subject area that sits at the intersection of commercial communication, media technology and consumer culture. PR and advertising are the disciplines through which organisations shape their public presence and influence how audiences perceive them, while digital media provides the increasingly dominant set of platforms, tools and practices through which those communications are created and distributed. Together they address the full landscape of modern marketing communications, from content creation and social media strategy to campaign planning, brand management and the measurement of engagement across digital channels. At the University of Westminster you will study for three years full-time, exploring the commercial dimensions of marketing communications alongside the critical and technical skills needed to create, share and evaluate messages across any digital platform. You will develop an understanding of consumer culture, persuasion, media economics and audience behaviour, alongside practical abilities in content production, digital campaign management and professional media practice. The programme includes a sandwich year in professional practice and a year abroad, giving you extended professional experience and international perspective in industries where connections and real-world exposure matter enormously. Graduates work across advertising agencies, PR consultancies, in-house communications teams, media companies, brands and the growing ecosystem of digital marketing and content businesses. Roles include PR executive, digital marketing manager, social media strategist, account manager, brand communications executive, content creator and media planner. Many graduates also move into corporate communications, public affairs, broadcast journalism or the creative industries. Postgraduate study in communications, marketing, digital media or public relations is a natural route for those who want to specialise further, and the pace of change in the sector creates ongoing demand for graduates who combine critical understanding with practical digital skills.
