About this course
Combining contemporary craft with music production in a single degree invites you into two distinct but complementary creative disciplines, each of which rewards careful making, attentive listening and disciplined practice. Contemporary craft encompasses the design and production of objects and works using traditional and emerging making processes, from ceramics and textiles to metal, glass, digital fabrication and mixed media. Music production involves the technical and artistic craft of creating, recording, mixing and shaping sound, working with both acoustic and electronic sources to produce finished recordings and sonic works. Together these disciplines share a commitment to process, material knowledge and creative problem-solving. At Liverpool Hope University you will develop practical and conceptual skills in both areas, building a portfolio of craft work alongside production projects that demonstrate your range and ambition. The programme includes a foundation year, giving you time to build confidence and technical grounding before moving into the full degree. It runs full time and includes both a sandwich year placement and a year abroad, offering you extended experience in professional creative environments and international study contexts. The craft strand draws on the university's supportive community ethos for emerging makers and designers, while the music production strand equips you with studio skills, software literacy and an understanding of the music industry. Graduates of combined craft and music programmes pursue careers in a wide range of creative fields. Craft specialists work as designer-makers, studio artists, craft educators, gallery managers and creative entrepreneurs, while those with music production expertise find roles in recording studios, post-production, music supervision, live events and the broader creative and digital media industries.
