BA Musical Theatre
About this course
Musical theatre is a form that demands fluency in three distinct disciplines at once: singing, acting, and dancing, unified by the ability to serve a story and character through performance. It is one of the most technically demanding performing arts, requiring sustained physical and vocal training alongside the interpretive and emotional intelligence that the form demands. At its best, musical theatre is a form of communal storytelling that reaches across social divisions and creates experiences that audiences carry with them for years. The three-year full-time Musical Theatre programme at the University of Lincoln develops your creativity, refines your technique, and prepares you to step into the professional world of musical theatre in all its diversity, from the commercial West End to experimental fringe performance. You will learn from expert practitioner-scholars in musical theatre, dance, theatre, and music, and the curriculum is enriched by workshops and masterclasses led by visiting professionals who bring current industry perspectives into your training. The programme includes a sandwich year and a work placement, giving you direct professional performance or production experience before you graduate. These opportunities in professional contexts are among the most important preparation a performer can receive, as they develop resilience, professional habits, and the network connections that matter in a highly competitive industry. With a typical entry tariff of 120 points, the programme welcomes students who bring strong performance ability and a serious commitment to developing as artists. Graduates from musical theatre programmes pursue careers as performers in West End and touring productions, regional theatre, television, cruise lines, and commercial and corporate entertainment. Many also move into teaching, choreography, direction, arts administration, and community arts, or go on to postgraduate study in performance or theatre practice.
