BA Business Studies and Spanish
About this course
Business studies and Spanish is a degree that prepares you for international commercial careers, developing both the management and strategic knowledge needed to understand and operate within businesses and the linguistic and cultural competence to do so in Spanish-speaking markets. Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world by native speakers and is an official language in more than twenty countries across Europe, Latin America and beyond, making Spanish fluency a significant professional asset across financial services, trade, consulting, development and diplomacy. At the University of Stirling, this four-year degree with a year abroad combines rigorous business study with advanced Spanish language development. You will study strategic management, marketing, finance, organisational behaviour, international business and entrepreneurship alongside Spanish language at an increasingly advanced level and engagement with the cultures, histories, literatures and political economies of Spanish-speaking countries. A year abroad gives you the opportunity to study or spend time in a Spanish-speaking country, developing your language through immersion and your understanding of specific markets, societies and cultures from the inside. The combination develops analytical and communicative capabilities that are genuinely rare in the graduate market: many business graduates have limited language skills, and many language graduates have limited commercial training. Graduates who combine both are distinguished in any competitive hiring process. Graduates go on to careers in international business, trade, financial services, consulting, marketing, export management, the civil service, European and international organisations, translation and interpreting, and roles in Latin American and Iberian markets. Further study in international business, Hispanic studies, business administration or MBA programmes is also common.
