BSc Business and Artificial Intelligence with Placement
About this course
The relationship between artificial intelligence and business is one of the defining questions of the current era. AI is no longer simply a technology that businesses adopt: it is reshaping strategy, disrupting established markets, creating new forms of competitive advantage and raising fundamental questions about how organisations should be managed. Understanding that relationship, from the inside, is what this degree is designed to enable. At the University of Southampton you will study business and artificial intelligence over four years of full-time study, gaining a grounding in both the technical dimensions of AI and the business context in which those technologies are deployed and managed. You will build leadership skills alongside technical competency, learning to analyse business problems and evaluate how AI tools, including machine learning, data analytics and automation, can be applied to address them effectively. The programme is structured to develop your ability to move between the quantitative and the strategic, to assess both the potential and the limitations of AI systems, and to communicate technical ideas to non-technical audiences. Work placement is integrated into the programme, providing a four-year structure that builds technical knowledge, analytical capability and applied professional experience. The typical tariff of 168 reflects the programme's position as a demanding, forward-looking degree with strong employability outcomes. Graduates are well placed for careers at the intersection of technology and business, in roles such as data analyst, AI project manager, business analyst, strategy consultant, product manager and digital transformation lead. The ability to understand AI not just as users but as informed decision-makers is increasingly sought across sectors including financial services, retail, healthcare, logistics, media and the public sector. Many graduates go on to postgraduate study in management, data science or specialist AI fields, building on the dual expertise developed during the programme.
