BSc Business Management with Human Resources
About this course
Business management with human resources is a combination that reflects the reality that every organisation depends on the effective management of its people. Human resource management is concerned with how organisations recruit, develop, motivate, and retain the people they need, and how they handle the complex legal, ethical, and strategic dimensions of employment. Combined with broader business management knowledge, it prepares graduates who understand both how organisations work commercially and how to build and sustain the workforce that enables that commercial success. The Birkbeck College BSc Business Management (Human Resource Management) introduces you to the key functions of business, developing your understanding of where and how the management of people contributes to business success. Birkbeck specialises in flexible, evening-based higher education, making this programme accessible to students who are working or who need to study around other commitments. The four-year programme develops your knowledge of strategic management, organisational behaviour, employment law, recruitment, performance management, reward, learning and development, and diversity and inclusion, alongside the broader business subjects of finance, marketing, and operations. Employability and flexibility are fundamental to the course, and you will develop the knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes that employers are looking for in people management roles. Graduates move into careers in human resources, people management, training and organisational development, recruitment, and employment relations across the public, private, and voluntary sectors. Many pursue professional membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and some go on to postgraduate study in human resource management, organisational behaviour, or employment law.
