BA Business Management and Sustainable Practice
About this course
Business management and sustainable practice is a degree for a world in which the relationship between commerce and the environment has become one of the defining questions facing every organisation. Traditional business management equips you to understand how organisations work across functions such as strategy, finance, marketing, and operations. Sustainable practice adds the critical dimension of how those functions can be redesigned, and how organisations can contribute to rather than deplete the natural and social systems they depend on. As industries move towards a more sustainable future, this combination is increasingly relevant to every sector. At the University of Derby, this three-year full-time programme gives you a solid grounding in the fundamentals of business management alongside skills in sustainability strategy, environmental management, stakeholder engagement, and the social and regulatory context in which sustainable business operates. You will develop your analytical, commercial, and critical thinking abilities through case studies, projects, and interaction with businesses navigating the sustainability transition. The programme includes an integrated foundation year for students who wish to build their academic and business foundations before the main degree, and a sandwich year with a year abroad and work placement that give you direct professional experience and international exposure. Entry typically requires around 104 UCAS tariff points. Graduates work in sustainability management, corporate responsibility, environmental consultancy, supply chain management, social enterprise, impact investment, and a wide range of business roles in organisations committed to improving their environmental and social performance. The combination of commercial knowledge with sustainability thinking is increasingly valued across all sectors.
