BSc Biomedical Science
About this course
Biomedical science is the set of disciplines that underpins modern medicine. It encompasses the study of the biological and biochemical mechanisms involved in health and disease, the laboratory techniques used to diagnose illness and monitor treatment, and the research that drives the development of new therapies. Without biomedical scientists, clinical diagnosis would be impossible: they carry out the laboratory analyses that identify infections, characterise cancers, monitor organ function, and guide clinical decisions across every area of healthcare. At King's College London, this three-year full-time BSc offers a flexible and interdisciplinary undergraduate education in the biosciences. You will benefit from high-quality teaching in the School of Bioscience Education and choose from a wide range of modules, allowing you to build a degree that reflects your scientific strengths and interests rather than following a single fixed path. The programme's flexibility means you can develop expertise across immunology, genetics, pharmacology, neuroscience, microbiology, or clinical biochemistry, depending on where your interests and career ambitions lead. A sandwich year gives you extended professional experience in a research or clinical laboratory environment, a year abroad allows you to engage with biomedical science in an international context, and work placement is integrated throughout, connecting your academic learning to real professional settings. King's location in central London, at the heart of a cluster of world-class hospitals and research institutions, gives you access to an exceptional scientific and clinical environment. Graduates go on to careers in clinical laboratory science, biomedical research, pharmaceutical and biotechnology development, regulatory affairs, and health sciences. Many continue to postgraduate study in a specialist area of biomedicine, and some go on to research careers in academic or clinical science. The combination of flexible specialist study, placement experience, and King's research environment makes graduates well placed across a wide range of health science careers.
