Theology and Religious Studies, combined with English Language, is a degree that takes seriously both the inner life of belief and the linguistic structures through which religion is expressed, debated, and transmitted. Theology and Religious Studies is a broad field: it encompasses the academic study of sacred texts, religious traditions, moral philosophy, and the history of belief, and it engages with religion not as a private matter but as a force in politics, history, literature, philosophy, art, and culture. English Language adds a rigorous analytical dimension, focusing on how language works, how meaning is constructed, and how communication shapes thought and society. At the University of Glasgow, this part-time programme includes a year abroad, giving you the experience of studying in a different cultural and academic environment at some point in your degree. You will engage with Biblical studies, the history of Christianity and other world religions, ethical and philosophical theology, and the sociological and anthropological dimensions of religious practice.
