BSc Sports Business Management
About this course
Sport has become one of the most commercially significant sectors in the global economy, encompassing professional leagues, media rights, sponsorship, merchandising, events management, digital platforms and fan engagement. Sports business management is the discipline that prepares professionals to operate at the intersection of sport and commerce, combining an understanding of how sporting organisations work with the business and analytical skills to run them effectively. At the University of Salford, this three-year full-time programme focuses on the skills and knowledge that modern sport business demands. You will study strategic management, marketing, finance, operations and organisational behaviour, applying these to the specific contexts of sport. Data analytics, digital innovation and sustainable business practices are integrated throughout, reflecting the ways in which the industry has evolved. Sport clubs, governing bodies, media companies, agencies and rights-holders all now require professionals who can think digitally, interpret commercial data and develop strategies that account for rapidly changing consumer behaviour and technology. The programme develops your analytical and leadership capabilities alongside your sector knowledge. You will examine how sporting organisations are structured and governed, how commercial partnerships and broadcast deals are negotiated and managed, and how fan experience and digital engagement are driving business models. Case studies and applied projects connect theory to real industry practice, building the professional confidence and commercial awareness that employers look for. Graduates go on to careers in sports organisations, agencies, media companies, event management, marketing and sponsorship, stadium operations, esports businesses and digital sports platforms. The combination of business fundamentals and sector knowledge also opens doors in management consultancy and marketing roles more broadly. Some graduates continue into postgraduate study in sports management, marketing or business.
