BSc Sport Rehabilitation and Conditioning
About this course
Sport rehabilitation and conditioning bridges the gap between clinical injury management and the performance demands of athletic training. Rehabilitation focuses on restoring function after injury, using evidence-based techniques to help individuals recover movement, strength, and confidence. Conditioning focuses on building the physical capacities, strength, power, endurance, and mobility, that allow athletes to perform and to resist future injury. Together they form a specialism that is increasingly recognised as distinct from physiotherapy and sports science, with its own professional standards and scope of practice. At the University of St Mark and St John, this hands-on, accredited degree teaches you to develop expert rehabilitation programmes and to explore health rehabilitation interventions in community contexts. You will work with special patient populations to improve their everyday quality of life alongside supporting athletic populations in performance settings. The curriculum covers anatomy and musculoskeletal pathology, clinical assessment, manual therapy, exercise prescription, strength and conditioning science, and research methods. Practical clinical experience is woven throughout the programme, and the accreditation provides a clear benchmark of professional competence. The degree runs over three years full-time, with a typical entry tariff of 120 points. Graduates of sport rehabilitation and conditioning programmes work in elite sport with professional clubs and national teams, in private rehabilitation clinics, in leisure and community settings, and in occupational health. The dual focus on rehabilitation and conditioning means you are prepared for a broader range of roles than a more narrowly clinical or sports science degree might provide. Many graduates pursue further professional development, and postgraduate study in sports medicine, physiotherapy, or strength and conditioning is a natural progression for those who want to specialise or advance to consultant-level practice.
