About this course
Sociology is the discipline that takes society itself as its subject matter, asking how social structures, institutions, and cultures shape the lives of individuals and groups. In a world of rapid and disorienting change, sociology offers some of the most important analytical tools available: the ability to look beneath the surface of social life, to understand inequality and power, to recognise how apparently individual experiences are shaped by larger social forces, and to think critically about the assumptions that govern everyday life. At Nottingham Trent University this three-year full-time degree is designed to produce graduates who are ready for the real world and well prepared to address the complex challenges of a multicultural and diverse society. You will engage with the major theoretical traditions in sociology, the quantitative and qualitative research methods that sociologists use, and a range of substantive topics including race, gender, class, health, crime, work, and digital culture.
