Social policy is concerned with the fundamental question of how societies should organise themselves to meet the needs of their members. It examines the design and delivery of welfare systems, healthcare, education, housing, and social security, asking what works, for whom, and at what cost. Combining this field with Spanish gives you both a rigorous analytical lens and a practical linguistic tool for understanding and engaging with a major part of the world. At the University of Strathclyde, this four-year full-time programme brings together the study of social policy with the development of Spanish language skills. The social policy strand explores issues including poverty, inequality across lines of race, gender, and age, social justice, criminal justice, and housing, drawing on sociology, economics, and political science to analyse how governments and institutions respond to social problems.
