BA Screenwriting and Producing
About this course
Screenwriting and producing brings together the two roles most directly responsible for whether a film or television project gets made: the writer who creates the story and the producer who makes it a reality. Where many creative writing courses focus primarily on craft, this degree at Regent's University London adds practical production skills and project management expertise, combining the imaginative and the commercial in a way that reflects how the screen industry actually works. The programme includes a year abroad, extending your exposure to different screen cultures and industry practices. You will develop as a screenwriter, learning the formal and narrative craft of writing for film and television, understanding the specific demands of the medium, and developing your own creative voice through sustained practice and critical feedback. Alongside that, you will build proficiency in the production dimension of the industry: how projects are funded and financed, how they are promoted and distributed, how teams are managed, and how the legal and financial frameworks that govern screen production operate in practice. This dual formation reflects the reality that the most effective screenwriters understand production constraints, and the most effective producers understand what makes a script work. The year abroad extends your formation into an international context, exposing you to different screen traditions and industry cultures. Graduates from screenwriting and producing programmes move into careers as screenwriters, script editors, producers, development executives, commissioning editors, production managers, and in a range of other roles in film, television, streaming platforms, and independent production. Many continue to postgraduate study in screenwriting, film production, or related fields.
