MPsych Psychology with Human Neuroscience
About this course
Psychology with Human Neuroscience is a degree that bridges two of the most compelling questions we can ask: how do minds work, and what is happening in the brain when they do? Psychology examines behaviour, thought, emotion and experience using the methods of social science, building theories about perception, memory, attention, learning and social interaction. Human neuroscience brings biological depth to those questions, investigating the neural processes, brain structures and physiological mechanisms that underlie mental life. Studying them together gives you a richer and more scientifically grounded understanding of what it means to be a thinking, feeling human being. At the University of Plymouth this four-year full-time degree develops your skills as a scientist and critical thinker. You will study core areas of psychology alongside modules in human neuroscience, designing experiments, collecting and analysing data, and learning how to interpret and communicate your findings. The programme includes a sandwich year, giving you the opportunity to develop professional experience in a relevant environment, as well as a year abroad option and work placement opportunities within the course structure. These elements are designed to deepen your practical understanding and prepare you for graduate-level work in psychology, research or related fields. Graduates from Psychology with Human Neuroscience go on to a wide range of careers. Many pursue further study or training to work as clinical psychologists, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists or counsellors. Others find roles in research, healthcare, education, human factors, user experience design, market research and public health. The scientific methods and analytical skills the degree develops are highly valued across the public and private sectors. For those wishing to continue academically, the programme provides a strong platform for postgraduate study in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, clinical psychology, health psychology or related fields.
