BSc Psychology
About this course
Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour, examining how people think, feel, perceive, learn, remember, make decisions and interact with each other and with the world around them. It is a discipline of remarkable breadth, spanning the neuroscience of cognition and emotion, the social psychology of groups and relationships, the developmental psychology of how we change across our lives, and the clinical and applied psychology that helps people experiencing mental health difficulties. Understanding psychology means understanding what it is to be human, and the discipline has profound implications for health, education, work, law and social policy. At the University of Lincoln, this part-time programme develops a broad and thorough foundation in psychology, exploring the science behind how we think, act and respond to others across a range of topics and approaches. The programme includes a sandwich placement year, a year abroad and work placement opportunities, giving you substantial professional and international experience alongside your academic studies. You will develop both the theoretical knowledge and the research skills that are central to academic psychology, learning to design and conduct studies, analyse data and interpret findings in a rigorous and evidence-based way. Psychology graduates are valued across a very wide range of careers. Many go on to further professional training in clinical, counselling, educational, forensic or occupational psychology, working towards qualification as practitioner psychologists with the relevant professional bodies. Others move into human resources, market research, communications, social work, education, healthcare management, criminal justice and the public sector, where the ability to understand and predict human behaviour is directly applicable. Postgraduate study in psychology, applied psychology or related health and social care fields is a natural continuation for those who wish to develop specialist professional expertise.
