BSc Psychology
About this course
Psychology is the scientific study of mind and behaviour, asking how people think, feel, perceive, develop, and interact, and what happens when these processes go wrong. It is a discipline that bridges the biological and social sciences, drawing on neuroscience, evolutionary biology, statistics, and social theory to understand human experience at multiple levels of analysis. Studying psychology develops both scientific rigour and deep curiosity about people, and its insights have applications across healthcare, education, business, sport, forensics, and public policy. At the University of Keele, this three-year full-time BSc is accredited by the British Psychological Society, fulfilling the educational requirements for graduate basis for registration and opening the door to postgraduate professional training in psychology. You will cover the core BPS content including biological, cognitive, social, and developmental psychology, and you will have the opportunity to explore specialised fields including mental health, counselling, forensic, health, business, and sport psychology. The programme blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience using industry-standard equipment. A sandwich year, a year abroad, and work placement opportunities are built in, giving you professional and international experience alongside your academic studies. The typical entry tariff is 120 points. Psychology graduates pursue a very wide range of careers. Many go on to postgraduate professional training in clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, or occupational psychology. Others enter careers in mental health support, social work, human resources, marketing research, education, and health services, where psychological knowledge is valued even without specialist registration. The research and analytical skills the degree develops are also sought after in data analysis, policy research, and the civil service. The BPS accreditation is the essential first step for those wishing to become registered psychologists.
