BSc Psychology
About this course
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour, concerned with understanding how people think, feel, perceive, remember, learn, and act, both as individuals and in social contexts. It is a genuinely broad discipline that spans biological and cognitive science at one end and social and clinical research at the other, using rigorous experimental methods, statistical analysis, and increasingly sophisticated neuroscientific tools to build an empirically grounded account of mental life. It is a field that rewards intellectual curiosity, careful thinking, and a willingness to engage with complexity and uncertainty. At University College London, this three-year full-time programme is among the most highly regarded psychology degrees in the country, taught within a research environment of international distinction. You will study the major areas of psychological science, including perception and cognition, learning and memory, developmental psychology, social psychology, neuroscience, research methods, and statistics, alongside more specialised topics that reflect UCL's particular research strengths. The programme is accredited by the British Psychological Society, which means that successful completion gives you the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, the essential stepping stone to professional qualification in any area of applied psychology. A typical entry tariff of 168 points reflects the competitive nature of the programme. Psychology graduates from UCL are well placed for careers in clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, occupational, and health psychology, all of which require further postgraduate training but are built on the scientific foundation this degree provides. Research careers in academic and applied psychology are equally open to graduates who develop a strong interest in empirical work. The analytical and methodological skills the degree develops are also valued in technology, finance, management consultancy, human resources, and public policy, where understanding human behaviour and decision-making is genuinely important.
