Psychology is the scientific study of how people think, feel, behave and relate to one another, bringing rigorous empirical methods to questions about the human mind and its development that have fascinated people across centuries. It is a discipline that spans the very concrete, examining brain function, perception and conditioning, and the deeply abstract, examining the nature of consciousness, the sources of motivation and the social dynamics of group belonging. At Anglia Ruskin University this three-year, BPS-accredited programme develops your understanding of psychology's major areas within a supportive and applied academic environment. You will study social, developmental, cognitive and biological psychology alongside abnormal psychology, research methods and statistics, building the broad knowledge base that a psychology degree requires alongside the quantitative and critical thinking skills that the scientific approach demands. The British Psychological Society accreditation means that graduates who meet the academic requirements hold the Graduate Basis for Chartership, the essential foundation for professional training in clinical, counselling, educational, forensic, health and occupational branches of psychology. The programme develops not only psychological knowledge but the analytical, communicative and interpersonal skills that make psychology graduates effective across a wide range of professional contexts. Many graduates go on to postgraduate professional training in clinical, counselling, educational or other applied branches of psychology, while others move into careers in social care, healthcare, education, HR, market research, public health, the civil service and communications, where understanding people and behaviour is central to the work. Some pursue research careers in academic or applied settings.
