BSc Psychology and Criminology
About this course
Psychology and criminology is a combination that reflects the deeply interconnected nature of these two disciplines when applied to questions of crime and justice. Psychology provides the tools to understand individual human behaviour: how people think, how they make decisions, how development shapes personality, and what distinguishes those who commit offences from those who do not. Criminology situates those questions within broader social, institutional and political frameworks, examining how crime is defined and measured, how criminal justice systems operate, and what effects punishment has on individuals and communities. Together, they offer a more complete picture of crime than either discipline can provide alone. At King's College London, this three-year full-time degree is accredited by the British Psychological Society, satisfying the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership and providing the professional foundation for those wishing to pursue careers or further training in applied psychology. You will engage with research-led teaching across both disciplines, developing skills in psychological science alongside criminological analysis. The programme offers access to a wide range of placements and internships, including opportunities at the world-leading Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, providing real-world experience that complements your academic study. With a typical entry tariff of 168 UCAS points, this is a competitive and demanding programme. Graduates go on to careers in forensic psychology, criminal justice, probation, youth offending services, research, social work, the police and the NHS. Many pursue postgraduate qualifications in clinical, forensic, educational or counselling psychology, and the BPS accreditation means the degree provides the required foundation for those pathways. The analytical, research and communication skills developed through the programme are also valued in policy, consultancy, journalism and public service more broadly.
