BSc Professional Nursing (Adult Nursing)
About this course
Adult nursing is a profession that places you at the centre of patient care across the full span of human life. Nurses assess, plan, and deliver care for individuals with a wide range of acute and long-term conditions, working collaboratively with doctors, allied health professionals, families, and communities. The role demands both scientific knowledge and human sensitivity, combining clinical competence with the communication skills to support patients and families through some of the most challenging experiences of their lives. At Queen's University Belfast this three-year full-time degree integrates theory and practice from the outset, with students spending half their time in university gaining the latest nursing theory and clinical skills, and half in clinical placements gaining direct patient care experience in a variety of settings. The programme is designed to prepare graduates for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as adult nurses, and Queen's takes a highly regarded approach to student support through its personal tutor system. You will study anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nursing assessment, therapeutic interventions, and the ethical and professional frameworks that guide nursing practice. The balance of academic study and clinical experience is central to the programme's philosophy. Registered nurses are in consistent demand across the NHS, independent healthcare providers, care homes, community health services, and internationally. After registration many nurses develop clinical specialisms, move into advanced practice roles, or pursue leadership and management paths. Postgraduate study in specialist nursing, advanced clinical practice, nurse education, or nursing research is a natural next step for those wishing to develop their career further. The degree at Queen's gives you both the clinical foundation and the reflective practice skills to grow throughout a long and varied professional career.
