Primary education with a specialism in early years is concerned with the learning and development of children from birth through to the end of primary schooling, with a particular focus on the earliest and most foundational years. Early childhood is a period of exceptional developmental significance: the cognitive, emotional, social and physical foundations laid in these years shape children's capacity to learn and flourish throughout their lives. Understanding child development, play-based learning, language acquisition, safeguarding and the principles of effective early years and primary practice is essential for anyone entering this field professionally. At the University of Stirling, this four-year full-time programme includes a year abroad and provides extensive classroom experience from early in the degree, placing you in real school and early years settings throughout your training. You will develop knowledge of child development, curriculum design, pedagogy, inclusive practice, literacy and numeracy, alongside specialist study in early years education and care.
