About this course
Portuguese combined with psychology is a pairing that develops two very different but complementary capabilities: the linguistic and cultural competence to engage with one of the world's most widely spoken languages and its associated cultures, and the scientific understanding of human mind and behaviour that psychology provides. Portuguese is spoken natively by over 250 million people across Portugal, Brazil, and a number of African countries, and it is one of the fastest-growing languages in terms of economic and cultural significance. Psychology brings systematic understanding of how people think, feel, and behave, drawing on empirical research to address questions about cognition, emotion, social influence, and mental health. At the University of Glasgow this five-year full-time programme develops your Portuguese language skills to a high level alongside a rigorous grounding in psychological science. The degree includes a sandwich placement year and a work placement component, giving you structured professional experience in both language and psychology-related contexts before you graduate. Glasgow's Psychology department is research-led, and the scientific training in research methods, statistics, and the major theoretical traditions of the discipline is central to the curriculum.
