Physics is the science that asks the most fundamental questions about the universe: what is matter made of, how does energy move, and what are the laws that govern everything from subatomic particles to the largest structures in the cosmos? It sits at the heart of every other natural science and underpins most of modern technology, from the semiconductors in your phone to the medical imaging equipment in hospitals. Studying physics at degree level means learning to think rigorously, to build mathematical models of the physical world, and to test those models against experiment and observation. At St Andrews, this five-year integrated master's programme takes you from the foundations of classical dynamics through to the sophisticated frameworks of quantum mechanics, relativity, and the physics of complex systems.
