Physical geography is the science of the Earth's surface environments, concerned with understanding landscapes, climates, ecosystems, soils, rivers, coasts, and the interactions between them. It is a discipline with both deep intellectual roots and urgent contemporary relevance, as geographers are at the forefront of research into climate change, natural hazards, environmental degradation, and the sustainability of the natural systems on which human life depends.
