Philosophy and psychology is a pairing with a long shared history: the two disciplines were closely related for most of their existence and only separated relatively recently. Philosophy asks the deepest conceptual questions about mind, knowledge, consciousness, and personal identity. Psychology investigates the same terrain empirically, using experiment and observation to understand how perception, cognition, emotion, and behaviour actually work. Studying both together means you can address the profound questions from both directions, with the rigour of philosophical argument and the evidence of psychological science. At the University of Glasgow this four-year full-time programme develops both disciplines with genuine depth. Philosophy at Glasgow is concerned with the systematic attempt to arrive at clear answers to profound questions about knowledge, life, morality, science, and human nature using reason and argument.
