The programme combines academic study of the underpinning biomedical and clinical sciences with substantial supervised practice in real ambulance and emergency care settings, developing the clinical reasoning, technical competence, and professional judgement that the role requires. Graduation leads to eligibility for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a paramedic, which is the professional gateway to practice in the UK. Graduates work primarily within NHS ambulance services in emergency, urgent, and patient transport roles, and increasingly in a widening range of clinical settings including emergency departments, primary care, and specialist pre-hospital care teams. The degree also provides a strong platform for postgraduate study in advanced clinical practice, critical care, or healthcare management for those who wish to develop specialist expertise or move into leadership and education within the profession.
