About this course
Adult nursing is at the heart of the health service: it is nurses who provide the sustained, direct care that patients rely on across every area of medicine, from acute hospital wards and surgical units to community settings and long-term care. Adult nurses work with people across the full range of adult ages and health conditions, combining scientific knowledge with the communication, compassion and clinical judgement that define effective professional practice. It is a demanding but deeply rewarding career, and the training required to enter it is both rigorous and practical. At the University of Manchester, this three-year full-time programme prepares you to become a skilled, highly capable registered nurse specialising in the care of adult patients. You will develop your understanding of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and the pathophysiology of disease alongside the clinical skills, evidence-based practice and professional values that the Nursing and Midwifery Council requires of all registered nurses. Extensive practice placements are embedded throughout the programme, placing you in real clinical environments where you apply your learning to patient care under supervision and develop the confidence and competence that nursing requires. Manchester's programme benefits from the university's close relationships with NHS trusts and the breadth of placement environments they offer. Leadership, communication, teamworking, and the ability to make sound clinical decisions under pressure are all developed alongside technical nursing skills.
