BSc Nursing (Adult) (Fife)
About this course
Adult nursing is the largest field of nursing practice, concerned with the care of people aged eighteen and over across the full range of health conditions and care settings. Registered nurses working in adult care support patients through acute illness, surgery, chronic conditions, cancer, mental health crises, rehabilitation, and end-of-life care, exercising professional judgement, delivering clinical interventions, and coordinating care in collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team. The profession requires clinical knowledge, practical skill, compassion, and the resilience to work effectively in often demanding and emotionally complex environments. At the University of Dundee, this three-year, full-time degree is delivered at Fife and leads to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as an adult nurse. You will study the anatomy and physiology of body systems, the pathophysiology of major conditions, pharmacology, nursing assessment and intervention, and the legal and ethical dimensions of professional practice. Theory and clinical practice are integrated throughout, with substantial placement time in hospitals, community settings, and other healthcare environments where you develop your skills under the supervision of registered nurses and other clinicians. Graduates register as nurses with the NMC and can work across the NHS, independent sector, and community care in a wide range of adult nursing roles. Many nurses go on to specialise in areas such as critical care, theatre nursing, oncology, mental health, community nursing, or advanced practice. Nurse prescribing, specialist practitioner qualifications, and leadership roles are available through postgraduate study and continuing professional development. Nursing offers a stable and genuinely meaningful career with strong demand for qualified practitioners across the UK and internationally.
